Requests & Recalls

Requests & Recalls

The request system is in place to ensure all users have fair access to library stock.

If all copies of a title are on loan you can make a request. Once an item is requested it should be returned within 7 days, or by the existing due date, whichever is sooner.

Please note that reference only texts cannot be requested, but should be available within the library.

To obtain an item that we do not have in stock you can make an Inter Library Loan request (ILL). You cannot make an ILL request for items we hold in the library even if these are all out on loan.

Recalled loans

  • If someone requests an item you have on loan, you will be asked to return it within 7 days, or by the existing due date, whichever is sooner. You will not be able to renew.
  • If the item is not returned within the recalled due date you will incur overdue charges (£2 per day up to £50).
  • When you issue items, you can print a receipt that will show the dates your loans are due for return or renewal. If an item has a queue of requests you can only borrow it for 7 days. Please check your receipt carefully.
  • A recall request can be placed at any time therefore due dates may be subject to change. It is vital to check your library account and university email regularly for notifications.
  • The library is open 24/7 every day so a book can be due back during vacations.

Making a Request

  1.  Sign into your Primo library account with your university username and password.
  2.  Find the item you want on Primo (the library catalogue).
  3.  If all copies are out on loan, click ‘Get It’ - underneath item title.
  4.  In the dialogue box that opens, click ‘Request’.
  5.  Fill out the form and click the Request button to submit.

If you consistently have problems finding an item on the shelves that shows as available on Primo, speak to library staff at the Information Desk on level 1.

Collecting Requests

  • You will be notified by email once your request is ready to collect. Check that the correct email address is recorded on your Primo/Library account.
  • You have 7 days to pick up your reservation. This will also show on your library account.
  • Requests can be collected from the reservation shelving on level 1.
  • Requests are kept in expiry date order and can be identified by their shelfmark number. This information is in your e-mail. You will need to collect the item before the expiry date and use the self-issue machine as usual before leaving the library.
  • When you issue items, you can print a receipt that will show the dates your loans are due for return or renewal. If an item has a queue of requests you can only borrow it for 7 days. Please check your receipt carefully.
  • Inter Library Loan requests are held for collection at the Information Desk on level 1.
